The Locomotion Museum and Stockton & Darlington Railway 200 invited people to come along and dance to the song Loco-Motion at Shildon Locomotion Museum on 26 February 2026, in a bid to break the official Guinness World Record for the number of people dancing together for five minutes.

Our Culture Companions members joined the hundreds of people who turned out, despite the weather, to give it their all in the world record attempt. To break the record 1,753 participants needed to complete the full five minute and 10 second routine to Kylie Minogue’s version of The Loco-Motion without stopping.

Although the record was not broken, the event was unforgettable and a big celebration of communities coming together.

A big well done to Locomotion for a very enjoyable event and we wish them the best of luck for next time!
